The Sallandse Heuvelrug
From the holiday park, you can easily access the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park, which is located between the villages of Holten and Hellendoorn. The Sallandse Heuvelrug is a ridge of several hills, including the Haarlerberg, the Holterberg, the Noetselerberg, the Koningsbelten and the Hellendoornse Berg, however these are located outside the National Park. Due to its great location, our holiday park in Holten is perfect for those looking for a chalet along the Sallandse Heuvelrug ridge.
The landscape
The Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park has both a forest and a vast heath. The forest was created at the end of the nineteenth century to prevent further growth of the heath, yet it fits perfectly into the landscape. A large number of wild animals live among the heathland and the forest, including grouse, lizards, swallows, roe deer, foxes, badgers, stone martens, and many more.
Black grouse
This almost extinct animal can only be found in the Sallandse Heuvelrug. Road traffic within the Sallandse Heuvelrug has been limited in order to protect these animals, which also makes it all the better for walkers and cyclists. The Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park has also further expanded the heathland to provide more space. This also appears to benefit the rare night swallow, which resides on the Sallandse Heuvelrug.
