Daantje Das is a play forest which offers an experience with nature, located at the nature museum on Holterberg Hill. There is a lot to do in the forest, for example, building cabins and enjoying picnics. There is also a swing and an exciting maze, plus the ‘Big Frog Trail’ for young children.
In addition to playing, there is also much to learn. This forest is not just a play forest, but an educational forest. There is a route offering children all kinds of different tasks which change every season - visit the museum to collect an exercise book. The kids can also have fun in the nature museum before or after the play forest. This museum is suitable for all ages. The play forest is also suitable for a holiday with your dog in the Dutch region of Overijssel. Dogs are allowed in the forest and are also very welcome at Buitenplaats Holten!

In the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park there is also a visitor center where you can learn more about the landscape of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park and the animals that are here. This also includes the public observatory.
Liberation walking route Sallandse Heuvelrug
Experience the liberation of Twente and Salland in the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. From Holten to Nijverdal a beautiful walking route has been plotted that goes along many remains that remind us of the second world war and the liberation. The walking route starts at the Memory Museum in Nijverdal and ends at the NS station in Holten.
Canadian War Cemetery
In addition to nature, you can see even more in the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. Here is the Holten Canadian War Cemetery, this is one of the largest military cemeteries in the Netherlands with graves of Canadians who fell at the end of the second world war.

The De Borkeld nature reserve is located between Holten, Rijssen and Markelo. You are a short 10-minute drive from Buitenplaats Holten. It is approximately 600 hectares and belongs to the Staatbosbeheer.
